  • Fire Safety – This is a “Leave No Trace event.” It is important that burnable art be constructed of materials which do not produce toxic fumes or excess pollution. It is recommended that anyone bringing materials to be burned first refer to this excellent information at the burningman.com website.

Below is safety guidelines that we must require of you in order to prevent damage and/or disasters at our events, as well as a list of materials that we have to prohibit from all fires.

IMMERSJAWN Fire Policy

Fire is an integral part of our community. At Immersjawn we encourage and support all types of safe fire art and overall appreciation. The following information and guidelines are designed to promote the safe use of Burn Barrels, Fire Performance Art, Burnable Art, and Flame Effects including Poofers and Fire Sculpture.

The integrity of Immersjawn heavily relies on having a safe relationship with fire. Working with, handling, and dealing with fire should never be taken lightly. Please cooperate with Fire Safety Leads, Rangers, Event Leads, Camp Placement, the Art Team, and the community at large with working with fire. We do not want to limit creative expression, but strive to keep our participants safe.

If you have specific questions about fire at Immersjawn, please contact us at info@dropscienceevents.com

Never manage a burn barrel, perform with fire, ignite burnable art, or operate flame effects while intoxicated.

BURN BARRELS

  • No fire pits dug into the ground

  • Have an ash/debris catch underneath barrel (i.e. – large metal dish, metal garbage can top)

  • Clear grasses around barrel without digging into the ground

  • Keep barrels a safe distance from shade structures, tents, vehicles and neighbors.

  • Have a camp plan for quickly extinguishing in the event of high winds

  • Please Cooperate with Rangers and Event Leads if requested to put out, move, or alter your

    burn barrel in any way

  • NEVER LEAVE FIRE UNATTENDED – EMBERS CAN IGNITE!

    FIRE PERFORMANCE ARTS

This includes poi, staff, fans, whips/ropes, fire breathing, and any fire toy

  • Do not perform in general camping areas, by static or burnable art

  • Ask permission of theme camp organizers before performing in their space.

    ◦ (Not finding camp organizers does not give you the go-ahead to light up)

  • If unsure where to safely perform fire, check with Fire Leads, Rangers, or event organizers

  • Please cooperate with Rangers and Event Leads if requested to extinguish fire toys or move to a

    different location

  • Always be safe and sober when fire performing

  • NEVER LEAVE UNATTENDED fuel on the ground

  • Always have a fire safety buddy with you with an extinguisher and/or fire blanket on hand

  • OPEN FIRE WITHIN THEME CAMPS
    1. Burning of large art installations that when fully engulfed in flames, produces a tremendous amount of heat and requires a burn shield platform is not allowed in any camping area.
    2. No fire barrels or open fire shall be left unattended. This includes candles, tiki torches or any open flame. At least one camp member will be designated fire tender and be within visual distance at all times. If found unattended while lit, open flames or burn barrels may be extinguished and/or confiscated if there is sufficient hazard.
    3. If winds pick up, all open fire must be put out immediately and burn barrels must be extinguished if they begin to throw sparks.
    4. Open fire or burn barrels must be extinguished at the request of any Ranger or personnel.
    5. A safety perimeter of one and a half times the height of the flame effect is required. A 15’ zone around the fire should be free of any flammable materials such as, but not limited to; cloth, paper, tents, plastic, etc.
    6. All liquid fuels such as gasoline and diesel that are stored in camp must be kept at least 30’ away from any flame, ignition, or radiant heat.
    7. An ABC fire extinguisher (5lb minimum) is required for the Theme Camp. In addition, must be kept on hand to extinguish the fire in case of high winds (wind can blow embers and sparks a long distance down the ground!) or other hazards. These are both to be kept in a clearly marked location at least 15 feet from the flame effect.
    8. Burn barrels shall be secure and constructed in a way that the bottom surface is at least 6” from the ground to prevent baking or scarring of the ground surface.

  • NOTE ON FIREWORKS We all love a good fireworks show but the use within the camping area is a violation of common sense and safety. Sparks and fire could ignite flammables in the camps and be difficult to fight and dangerous to campers. As part of our event stipulations with landowner the use of ANY pyrotechnics is forbidden.
